EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This paper, entitled “Negotiations on Agriculture in the FTAA”, was written by Arnoldo de Campos, an economist with the DESER (Department of Rural Socioeconomic Studies). It brings together information on agriculture and trade in the FTAA, based on presentations on the progress in the negotiations thus far and the possible implications of the negotiations, particularly for agriculture, where family agriculture is predominant. The paper sets out the main official positions of the countries involved in the FTAA process, as well as a critique of the ongoing process of integration and negotiation. It is intended as a guide for organizations in the family-agriculture sector, with a view to enabling them to keep abreast of and take part in shaping the FTAA.
