Standards in Trade Workshop/ U.S. Technology and principles in metrology, standards-setting, and conformity assessment. (NIST in cooperation with the Office of Standards Services) |
The two-week course provides top or mid-level foreign public and private sector participants a comprehensive overview of the roles of the U.S. Government, private sector, and international and regional organizations in the development of standards and the conduct of conformity assessment activities. The workshop focuses on the U.S. process of standards development, how standards and related practices are applied, and their impact on international trade. Specific workshop objectives are to:

USTTI U.S. Telecommunications Training Institute/NIST Standards in Trade Workshop/ Standards and Conformity Assessment in the U.S. |
A week long course offered by USTTI and conducted by NIST is a Standards in Trade Workshop which provides mid- to high-level technical and regulatory experts a comprehensive overview of the roles of the U.S. Government, private sector, and international and regional organizations in the development of standards and conformance assessment. The workshop focuses on U.S. process of standards development, how standards and related practices are applied and impact international trade, with emphasis on the telecommunications industry. |

Information on ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 |
The Office of Standards Services (OSS) has published two booklets and several other documents with basic information on the ISO 9000 Standard Series and related quality system standards. In addition, OSS responds to requests for information on these topics from government and the private sector. OSS has also assisted several government agencies in their efforts to use the ISO 9000 and related standards within the scope of their regulatory and procurement programs and OSS staff have given presentations at many domestic and international training seminars and related meetings to educate private sector and government participants about the ISO 9000 Standard Series and its usage. OSS is represented on the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee (TC) 176, the committee responsible for the development of the ISO 9000 and 10000 standard series. |
