ITC's Trade Financing Services

Trade Financing Services are designed to facilitate access to finance of small and medium sized enterprises exporting from developing and transition countries, and to build up their capability to deal with financial issues. In addition, it also provides technical assistance aimed at strengthening schemes and mechanisms offered by financial institutions in both private and public sectors, in the field of export finance, short term trade credit and credit insurances and guarantees.

The beneficiaries of Trade Financing services are mainly exporters, trade and bank associations, bankers, financial authorities and decision makers in developing and transition countries.

The main objective is to provide a better understanding of, and access to, international trade law and practice. LAFT services also assist Governments, para-statal and regional organisations, in up-dating their legal framework on international trade.

Activities and tools:

• Model International contracts and guides for SMEs

• Networking of Company lawyers and jurists

• JURIS data base - An international trade law data base containing major international trade treaties and uniform model laws (full text) together with basic summaries and lists of ratifications; major codified international trade usages; international model contract forms; dispute resolution.

• Support Services to Governmental bodies. ITC also assists, Governments and Governmental bodies in up-dating their national legal framework with regard to foreign trade.

• Capacity-building. LAFT services offer advanced training seminars on the latest techniques in contract drafting and dispute resolution, international trade law and practice.
