FAO's Assistance to Developing Countries in Fields Related to TRIPS

FAO provides technical advice and assistance  on a wide range of food and agricultural topics. These include advice and assistance on food quality and safety, animal health and production, plant protection and quarantine activities and general advice on agricultural production and trade, including information on agricultural policy and incentives for production and trade. FAO's main interest and technical expertise on TRIPS relate to intellectual property rights over plant varieties, animal breeds and related technologies and germplasm.

Training program in the Uruguay Round

This training programme will aim at enhancing national capacity on WTO issues so that countries are in a stronger position to meet their obligations and accrue the benefits under the existing WTO Agreement and are better prepared to participate in the next round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations (MTNs). The content of the training programme would address: current UR agreements and their implications for agriculture and trade; emerging issues and topics relevant to future negotiations; special issues of regional and sub-regional concerns, as well as sources of information on UR agreements.
