      Public FTAA -
COMMITTEE OF GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATIVES ON THE PARTICIPATION OF CONTRIBUTION IN RESPONSE TO THE OPEN INVITATION
A recommendation is forwarded to the Committee
that the Hemispheric Trade and Tariff Data Base be completed. The
data base currently does not contain trade or tariff information on
six (6) of the FTAA Participating countries. The recommendation,
further, suggests that the Inter-American Development Bank consider
providing the necessary funding to complete this work and identifies
possible organizations / entities that have the capability and
necessary expertise to carry out the work mandated by Ministers of
Trade when they met in Toronto in November, 1999. Recommendation: The FTAA Process: (Business Facilitation Measures). 1. Hemispheric Trade and Tariff Data Base.
Additional effort should be exerted to complete the Hemispheric Trade
and Tariff Data Base so that it is complete for all country participants
in the FTAA process. The data base currently remains incomplete and is therefore not fully consistent with
the commitment given by Trade Ministers in Toronto in 1999. The
Inter-American Development Bank should be prepared to consider favourably funding requests for the development of such data and
information with respect to: a. Antigua and Barbuda i. The development of the necessary data for
Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, Haiti and Suriname could be the
responsibility of the Caricom Secretariat, headquartered in
            Georgetown, Guyana. |
