FTAA - NEGOTIATING GROUP ON SUBSIDIES, ANTI-DUMPING AND COUNTERVAILING DUTIES
THIRD MEETING
Miami, June 03-04, 1999
PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ
- The Third Meeting of the Negotiating Group on Subsidies, Anti-dumping and
Countervailing Duties was held in Miami on 03-04 June 1999.
- The following countries were in attendance: Argentina, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada,
Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras,
Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela.
- The negotiations were conducted in accordance with the following agenda:
- Approval of the Agenda
- Study and updating of the Compendium of Legislation and Inventory of Measures
- Discussion of the Items Submited by Delegations
- Relationship with other Negotiating Groups
- Other Business
- The delegations that had proposed new issues for discussion made presentations on
same; initial comments were voiced by other delegations. Also, the discussion of the
issues introduced in the previous meeting was resumed. Furthermore, the Group
examined the content of the Negotiating Group's report to the TNC.
- The Negotiating Group recommended that, wherever possible, the countries or
subregional groups should provide a positive response to technical assistance requests
put forward at the Negotiating Group's meeting.
- Lastly, the delegations agreed to change the dates of the next meeting to 19 and 20
July, in response to a request by the Negotiating Group on Competition Policy.
