PRESS RELEASE

1. The sixth meeting of the Negotiating Group on Competition Policy (NGCP) was held in Miami, on 20 and 21 January 2000.

2. The meeting was attended by representatives from 19 countries of the Hemisphere:
   
    

   Argentina Bahamas Brazil Canada Chile Colombia Costa Rica Dominican Republic Ecuador El Salvador

   Honduras Mexico Panama Paraguay Peru Trinidad & Tobago United States Uruguay Venezuela

3. The Group´s deliberations were based on the attached Agenda; they focused on the definition of a schedule of meetings and a methodology to fufil the mandate handed down by the Ministers by December 2000.

4. The Negotiating Group on Competiton Policy proposed to hold its seventh meeting during the last week of April or first week of May 2000.
