FTAA – CONSULTATIVE GROUP ON SMALLER ECONOMIESHEMISPHERIC COOPERATION PROGRAM
NEGOTIATING GROUP ON MARKET ACCESS
Based on the principles, objectives, and general characteristics of the
Hemispheric Cooperation Program, we hereby present the following project profile
with a view to building greater capacity to negotiate and administer the FTAA
- Project title
“Strengthening of the Trade Information Office for private sector and civil
society negotiations and consultations”
This project came about with a view to complying with the principle of
transparency and participation of civil society in the negotiations and
implementation of the FTAA agreement.
To comply with the principle of transparency and participation of civil society,
a more broad-based and sustained process needs to be advanced with the members
of civil society so as to keep them informed on an ongoing basis and afford them
a clear vision of the progress of the negotiations of the FTAA and the
implementation of the agreement beyond 2005.
- Objectives of the Project:
Build the Trade Information Office’s capacity to publish brochures, leaflets,
and press, radio, and TV advertisements. And run seminars and courses to educate
civil society representatives to encourage them to frame and present proposals
to the government.
- Inputs: resources needed for the project
- Publications of information documents on the progress of the FTAA Process
- Advertising time and space in the press, radio and TV
- Direct training (seminars, courses, workshops, etc.)
- Expected results
Secure proactive participation of Nicaragua’s civil society and encourage it to
contribute with informed proposals to the Nicaraguan government’s negotiating
capacity in the FTAA negotiations and implementation phase.
