FTAA – CONSULTATIVE GROUP ON SMALLER ECONOMIES

PARAGUAY

BASIC FORMAT FOR THE PRESENTATION OF SPECIFIC PROJECT PROFILES UNDER THE
HEMISPHERIC COOPERATION PROGRAM – RELATED TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

  1. Title of the Project

    Institution building
Dissemination of the importance of industrial property

  2. Background

    • The institution must be strengthened to obtain optimal results in the negotiations, and the staff must also be trained in the preparation of studies on projects so that this in turn may encourage the country's and the institution's development.

    • The Department of Industrial Property had materials such as pamphlets, posters, and manuals to promote and disseminate information on intellectual property in Paraguay; we should stress that for budgetary reasons these materials were not reprinted.

  3. Rationale

One of the concerns is the corporate image of the Department of Industrial Property, in order to enhance the Department and determine its needs in this regard. The intention, in addition to receiving and granting industrial property rights, is for the Department to become a center for the dissemination of technological information and industrial property rights for commerce, industry, universities, and research centers. And this should, above all, improve the image of the Department of Industrial Property from the inside out.

  4. Objectives of the project

    • Strengthening the communications network
    • Publishing advertising on the Department
    • Training technical experts so that they will have in-depth knowledge of the area of negotiations

  5. Inputs: resources required for the project
    • Financial and technical assistance needed to support national institutions
    • Training courses and internships

  6. Expected Results

    • Implementation of trade agreement mechanisms
    • Professionals well versed on the topic, who, in turn, will train new generations
    • Benefits for the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Department of Industrial Property
