ISSUES Eighth Meeting
Panama, November 21-22, 2002
PRESS COMMUNIQUE
The Eighth Meeting of the Technical Committee on
Institutional Issues (TCI) was held from 21 to 22 November in Panama. In
attendance were representatives from the following 19 countries: Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic,
Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the
United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
The TCI approved the Agenda, attached hereto,
and covered all of the items therein.
The TCI summarized the results of the Quito Ministerial meeting while noting the
extensive discussions, during the Ministerial meeting, on the participation of
civil society, improvement of communication channels, and the importance of
maintaining free-flowing dialogue with civil society and other FTAA entities for
the purpose of exchanging information and ideas on the ideal ways of reaching
the established objectives.
The TCI agreed on the Work Plan that includes treating the various issues it has
been mandated with and treat these on specific dates so as to have a new text on
general or institutional issues before the Fourteenth Meeting of the TNC.
The TCI took note of, discussed, and expressed its appreciation for the
contributions received from civil society.
