FTAA - NEGOTIATING GROUP ON MARKET ACCESS
Ninth Meeting Miami, July 4-7, 2000
PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ

The ninth meeting of the Negotiating Group on Market Access was held in
Miami, Florida, from July 4-7, 2000. Delegates from the following
countries participated therein: Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia,
Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru,
Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The Negotiating Group on Market Access tackled the topics on the agenda,
including a very detailed exchange of points of view on Tariffs and
Non-Tariff Measures, Rules of Origin, Customs Procedures, Safeguards,
Technical Barriers to Trade, as well as the modalities of negotiation
concerning the reduction of tariffs. On each one of these topics,
significant advances were achieved and solid basis for the subsequent
development of the work were established.

The next meeting of the Group will take place in Miami, Florida, from
19-22 September 2000.
