FTAA - NEGOTIATING GROUP ON COMPETITION POLICY Eighteenth Meeting
 Panama, November 13 – 15, 2002
 
PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ 
 
 
The Eighteenth Meeting of the Negotiating Group on Competition Policy (NGCP) was 
held in Panama from 13 to 15 November 2002. In attendance were representatives 
from the following 18 countries of the Hemisphere:    
 Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican 
Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and 
Tobago, United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
 
  
 
The deliberations took place in accordance with the approved 
agenda. 
The following is a list of some of the items that were discussed:
 
Consideration of the mandates of the Quito Ministerial Declaration
 
Definition of the schedule of meetings
 
Drafting of the NGCP Work Program up to the Twenty-Second meeting 
 
As agreed at the previous meeting, progress was made in reaching consensus 
on as many issues in the Draft Chapter on Competition Policy as possible.

Work aimed to achieve consensus on the greatest possible number of issues 
from Articles 1.1, 1.3, 1.4, 3.1, 2.7, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, and 2.6 of the Draft 
Chapter on Competition Policy, pursuant to the terms agreed in the Summary 
Report from the Chair on the Seventeenth Meeting.
